Andorra

Andorra is a country situated in the heart of the Pyrenees between France and Spain. There is no space in this small European territory, which covers 468 square kilometres, that isn't worth visiting and enjoying. A country of snow, shopping, water, sport, the Romanesque... Andorra has many brands, all of which are winners.

Ski slopes

In only 468 square kilometres, Andorra offers five ski resorts with more than 279 kilometres of slopes. The excellent location of these ski slopes, in the heart of the Pyrenees, means you can enjoy a sufficiently cold season with a high percentage of sunny days year round. The first ski resort in Andorra was officially opened in 1957. It was a ski lift from Pas de la Casa that functioned via the engine of a lorry. Today, Andorra has two large ski domains: GRANDVALIRA and VALLNORD. Combined, they have 115 ski lifts that can transport more than 156,000 skiers per hour. Sixty years after the installation of that first ski lift, Andorra hosts large international events on the winter sport calendar, including the Alpine Ski World Cup, Speed World Cup and Mountain Skiing World Cup.

Contemporary culture is kept alive in Andorra La Vella thanks to diverse festivals, including the International Festival of Clowns and the Music and Dance Festival. Important festivities include the Escudella de Sant Antoni, Fiesta Mayor de Andorra La Vella, carnival and the medieval market.

Culture: Romanesque routes and museums

There is more to Andorra than simply ski resorts and shopping. It is also a culturally and architecturally vibrant place thanks to the heritage left to it over its more than thousand years of history. Culturally, Andorra is known for its many Romanesque churches, chapels and bridges found in its every corner, in addition to its wide variety of museums. Romanesque and pre-Romanesque art can be enjoyed especially in the capital, as well as Santa Coloma, with notable monuments being Santa Coloma Church and La Margineda Bridge. Other symbolic places in Andorra La Vella are: La Casa de la Vall, built in the 16th century and headquarters of the Consell General; Sant Esteve Church, a monumental church with Romanesque origins dating back to the 12th century, located in Plaza Princep Benlloch; the ruins of Enclar Castle; Sant Vicent d’Enclar Church; and Sant Andreu Church.
